Diddy Kong Racing Nintendo 64

I had a friend that lent me his N64 for a week or so and he had Diddy Kong Racing. That was a fun game. Lots of wacky tracks and hidden boost. Fun for everyone. My friends were pissed that I got so good and I would use the little mouse with the pink Kart to beat them. Hahaha.

That was really a fun game to play, I can't say the same as you for my friends and me, because we were all incredibly good in this game. I don't think that anyone won more than once in a row when we were playing it. We were really competitive at the time, maybe a little too much.

As the predecessor to Mario Kart this game brings back wonderful memories I don't think I have a working copy anymore but boy was it fun to play.

While I agree with a lot of people that say Diddy Kong racing was objectively better than Mario Kart at the time, I just didn't find it as fun to be honest. I played quite a bit of it and was addicted for a while, but if you asked me after to choose between one of them I would choose Mario Kart, it's just more fun for me.

Really I still think about this game. I really had lots of fun playing this game and I could still remember the first day that I had the chance to play this. I remember how me and my uncles would just sit and play this for hours and hours.

That's cool. To each his own. I never played the original Mario Kart so I have nothing to reference it to. But I'm sure it was similar in many aspects. Did the original mario kart have planes to race with?

I never got to play this game but Mario Kart has opened me up to kart racers and now I'm hoping to try this someday soon. I'll probably get an emulator but as much as possible I prefer to have the more authentic experience.

No, Mario Kart was purely Kart races and it had no transformation into anything else. In that regard Diddy Kong Racing introduced a very cool system in which you could fly planes and have water races as well. Like I said, it is objectively the better game at the time, I just found Mario Kart slightly more fun. I think the items are what make the difference for me, the ones in Mario Kart were crazy, and they still are.

I've never played Diddy Kong racing before but based on the screen shot, it kinda looks like Mario Kart. Could somebody please tell me what their difference is? What makes Diddy Kong unique? What has it got that Mario Kart hasn't got?

It is amazing how the Kart racing games in the Mario family have not changed that much. The versions of this game even older than the 64 doesn't look tremendously different than the modern games. I feel that way about other Mario and Donkey Kong games too, but I suppose there is only so much you can do to polish up graphics before walking mushrooms just aren't going to look any more realistic!

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately though I don't think that console got popular in my country so I doubt there are many owners here but I guess if I looked hard enough I could find and buy a used one off of ebay. Is it really that much different of an experience to using an emulator?

I loved diddy kong racing and MK, they were my favourite games with 100+ hours EACH on them.

I would always wreck people haha.

Oh no actually sometimes I tend to play it more these days on an emulator. I think the copy I had got messed up. Really it should not make any difference though so go for it.

Now that was a fun game back in the day, but I haven't played it for quite some time now, and that's probably not going to change any time soon.
