Which do you prefer the story mode or online?

Given how much more there is to do online compared to GTA IV I much prefer the online version. If it was the previous game it would be a tie but now that you can build yourself up, earn money and do heists there's a similar number of things to do, especially with your friends.

It honestly depends. If I have friends then I would probably prefer online mode because I don't have to play with random people. On the contrary, singleplayer/story mode is fun because you can practically do anything you want without being limited by other players, but sometimes you feel lonely.

I treat both as two different games. There is no comparison between them. Online mode is for when I feel like having some fun or just trolling. On the other hand, if I like to be left alone, I prefer single player mode.

Simply due to the social aspect - online, however I admit I am entirely biased, as multiplayer games have been the hallmark of my gaming career.

Story mode, although extremely entertaining on its own, tends to dry up after your 200th time stealing a car or robbing a bank.

I like online mode better since I can screw around with character creation and make myself in the game and have fun with my friends. Our favorite activity is seeing how many people we can kill sing just grenades.

I'd have to say Online. Once you finish the story mode, you're finished with it. GTA Online, however, is social, and ever-expanding with new updates coming as quickly as every few weeks. The story mode will only get updated in GTA VI, however Online is dynamic and social, and for that reason, I'd have to say Online.

I prefer the online purely because it is multiplayer. The kinds of things that happen in multiplayer is better than almost any video game ever. You can all be driving around shooting at each other or flying planes and just wondering what the heck is even happening. Story can be fun but I guarantee that you will have at least 10 times as much fun. Player interactions are almost always better than human to AI interactions.

I like the story mode. I always loved the story lines of games, and The story line of GTA 5 was very immersive and built up a lot of emotions to characters! Online? meh, non of my friends even play it anymore.

I like the story mode way better than the online mode. I've been playing the story mode for about a year now (when I started playing on a mate's Playstation), and I have yet to get bored of it. It's simply fantastic: the atmosphere, the level of detail: Los Santos feels alive.

In Online, though, the NPCs feel like puppets, and the online experience is really bad due to the loading screens and lobby times. I'd rather play the game alone than wait 20 minutes to play a 10 minute match with strangers.

My son seems to enjoy the story mode, but I enjoy an open world game style. I actually don't play online either, but do what I want in a very diverse world. We have had the game long enough now, I have pretty much explored everywhere (love how much extra space this version of the series has outside the city). One of my favorite things to do is get a plane and fly low, watching the people, animals and landscape. I try to parachute to areas I can't otherwise reach (like skyscrapers).

Online. I don't think GTA V has that great of a story mode, to be quite honest. And I think that their mission formulas are a little boring.

I like the single player more. I just can't get me to play GTA Online. I bought GTA V, but I have yet to play it Online. It's just more fun when I'm alone than with players, because players can do lots of things to ruin your gameplay. I'd always choose to play single rather than multiplayer.

I prefer the story mode, but I like structure. The online mode is just too much for me sometimes. I swear, some people are just rude and are only there to ruin the game for everyone else. I've heard lately that they have been enforcing it more and kicking people out to the lounge when they're being jerks, so maybe I will have to try to jump back into the online game again! But either way, it really pisses me off and makes me not want to play when some jerk just keeps blowing me up every time I respawn.

The story-mode is great but it's replay value is non-existent for me. I'll usually play that first before heading into online play so I have a better grasp on the world and game engine; however, once that is over it's usually strictly online for the sole purpose of new content all the time. The game never gets old and I probably still play it 4-6 hours a week even after owning it for years now. I love some of the new adversary modes and content with cars that keep coming out. Online really has blossomed into something special in the GTA universe. I hope they start slimming it down for now though and focus on GTA 6.

I'm a sucker for GTA story mode but I wasn't all that hyped up for it, maybe because playing GTA V online is a much better experience that overshadows the single-player aspect. I just hope the online content keeps on expanding but as the game is likely to die off once a GTA VI comes out, I don't have my hopes up.

^^ I log in once or twice a week and they usually always have something popping up. Just recently I saw the 'inch by inch' adversary mode, but that was a few weeks ago so I don't know if they have added anything else. Honestly, though, I would rather they slim back on the online content and focus more on developing GTA 6. We have enough here now to keep us satisfied I don't really need the continual updates.

I prefer the story mode for sure. Online is fun, since you can blow each other up and rub it in your friends faces, but ultimately the plot is what does it for me in these games. The designers make the plot engaging and hilarious in a way that only the GTA designers could.

I enjoy online much more whenever it's working, but when I have no friends online and am forced into matchmaking it's such a mixed bag in terms of what gauntlet of glitches, lag, and trolls, I'm going to face. The story though was kinda of a drag for me to get through, if they had just cut all of the non heist missions and added a few more heists I would have been fine with a 5-7 hour long, really tight campaign. As it stands with the heist pack I think we really got the best of both worlds in terms of the replay-ability of the single player and the utter mayhem of online.

GTA Online is far more enjoyable than the story because it lasts longer and you can do far more. You're going to get more laugh out loud and awesome moments playing with friends or strangers too.
I agree with you. GTA online is much more enjoyable than the story mode.

Why you find it more enjoyable than the online mode?
