In Tokyo, you can rent go-karts and drive them around on the streets.
If you want, you and your friends can also put on elaborate Mario Kart costumes, complete with weapons, and wear them while you do this. What’s stopping you? Certainly not Japan.
It all looks like a huge amount of fun, although the fact that you can see people on bikes keeping up with the Karts in some of the videos kind of kills the fantasy of a real race. The Facebook page of one of the rental companies is here:

The price range for the rentals is a relatively reasonable $30 to $50 if you ever want to try it.
